UCLA has been named the No. 2 public university in the Unites States according to the 2019 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, published today. The report also ranked UCLA No. 12 among all U.S. universities — public or private — and No. 17 worldwide. The publication ranked more than 1,250 of the world’s leading research-intensive universities.

The rankings take into account a variety of factors, including quality of teaching and research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. UC Berkeley, which tops the list of American public universities, is the only other American public institution to rank among the world’s top 20.

UCLA is the most applied to university in the United States and consistently excels in a variety of rankings, regardless of methodology.

Earlier in September, UCLA was ranked No. 1 in the 2019 U.S. News & World Report “Best Colleges” report. UCLA was also ranked No. 1 among U.S. public universities in the Times Higher Education/Wall Street Journal rankings of U.S. universities. In August, UCLA was ranked No. 2 among U.S. public universities for its contributions to society by Washington Monthly. In April, UCLA was ranked as the No. 1 best-value public university by Forbes.
