UCLA’s campus infrastructure is continually upgrading. New buildings, expanded teaching and lab spaces and upgraded student housing help to ensure UCLA’s excellence into our second century. Here are 14 projects recently finished or under construction.
1. Edie & Lew Wasserman Building
Campus officials dedicated the landmark research and patient-care facility at a festive ceremony on Oct. 28, 2014.
2. Engineering VI
This building will include labs for research into renewable energy sources, nanotechnology and semiconductors, as well as the computer science department. The first phase was completed in March.
3. Evelyn and Mo Ostin Music Center
The new music building opened during the fall quarter.
4. Hitch Suites
Students moved in to the renovated suites for the fall quarter.
5. Saxon Suites
Modernization of the student housing facility on The Hill is scheduled to be ready for move in this fall.
6. Campbell Hall
The expanded and upgraded hall in North Campus was dedicated this month.
7. Pauley Pavilion repairs
The storied arena was restored to its dazzling glory after the 2014 flooding.
8. Weyburn Terrace
The residential community for 1,800 graduate students was recognized by the Congress for the New Urbanism as one of the year’s most outstanding examples of architectural, landscape, urban and regional design.
9. Geffen Hall
The new building will allow the David Geffen School of Medicine to expand its educational programs. Opening is scheduled for summer 2016.
10. Meyer and Renee Luskin Conference Center
The conference center fulfills UCLA’s long-held aspiration for a central meeting place on campus for academic events. Opening fall 2016.
11. Mildred E. Mathias Botanical Garden entrance
The new entrance dedicated in 2014 begins a series of renovations to the 7-acre garden.
12. Center for Health Sciences South Tower
Seismic upgrade and other renovations will be completed this summer.
13. Landfair and Glenrock Apartments
Off-campus student housing in the North Village opened fall 2014.
14. Connie Frank Kidney Transplant Center
The new center housed in the Peter Morton Medical Building opened this spring.
