Thousands of happy and hot UCLA staff members swarmed Dickson Plaza today to partake in the annual All-Staff Picnic. Under a cloudless blue sky with a gentle breeze wafting through, some 5,000 UCLA employees got together for the 13th edition of the annual mid-summer break.
To show their appreciation, UCLA leadership handed out the boxed lunches to staff as they entered the east side of the plaza between Haines Hall and the Humanities building.
The festivities featured the usual array of mini-reunions of co-workers from across campus, dancing on the bricks between Powell Library and Royce Hall, mouth-chilling watermelon and ice cream, and new this year a water-balloon–toss competition.
The picnic is co-sponsored by Staff Assembly, Campus Human Resources and the Office of the Chancellor to show appreciation to the thousands of employees who keep UCLA humming every day.
