Update 7 p.m.:
After a full day of monitoring the Getty Fire, we are pleased to report that, based on current conditions, classes will resume tomorrow on campus, including at the UCLA Lab School, Geffen Academy and Early Care and Education Centers. If there are any significant changes overnight, we will update you by 6 a.m. tomorrow.
We want to take a moment to emphasize that our campus remains committed to keeping the entire UCLA community safe and informed about conditions and any new developments that may impact students, faculty, staff, patients and visitors, regardless of whether they reside on or off campus. We also want to reassure you that the fire remains on the opposite side of the 405 Freeway from UCLA and at no point in the day was the safety of anyone on our campus at risk.
All UCLA Health facilities currently remain fully operational, except those in the evacuation zone.
Update 1:30 p.m.:
While the Getty Fire remains west of the 405 and is not an immediate threat to UCLA, winds have shifted, causing some smoke to drift over campus. Air quality at UCLA is now considered moderate. Please be aware that air quality levels may fluctuate throughout the day, and if conditions worsen individuals in sensitive groups, including older adults, children, pregnant women and those with pre-existing heart or lung disease, should reduce outside activities if they experience health impacts from smoke. We will continue to monitor and update the campus community via the BruinAlert system should conditions change.
Update 9:15 a.m.:
UCLA is cancelling classes today. While the fire remains west of the 405 Freeway and poses no immediate threat to campus, we know some members of our campus community live in evacuation areas or may be impacted by road closures. Employees should report to work if they can get to work safely and stay in touch with their supervisors, but we ask everyone to put safety first in determining whether or not to make today’s commute to the university.
UCLA continues to closely monitor the fire and we are actively coordinating with the Los Angeles Fire Department. Based on currently available data, air quality is considered good but we recognize those levels could fluctuate throughout the day and we will update you on any changes.
All UCLA Health facilities currently remain fully operational, except those in the evacuation zone.
Consistent with other K-12 schools in the area, the UCLA Lab School, the Geffen Academy, and Early Care and Education Centers (Krieger, Fernald and University Village), including Bright Horizons, have also been closed.

The Los Angeles Fire Department is working on an active and growing brush fire on the west side of the 405 Freeway, north of Sunset Blvd. UCLA Emergency Management is working with LAFD and there is no immediate threat to campus from the fire.
The fire is burning away from campus, and UCLA is outside the evacuation area.
Commuting to the campus from the north could be challenging. UCLA officials will continue monitoring the situation and will provide updates as we learn more.
