The next sessions of UCLA Recreation’s free FITWELL programs for campus faculty and staff are coming up. Enroll in one of the following programs to increase your health and to improve the wellness of the UCLA community.
A 12-week weight loss program that offers intensive nutritional guidance and gradually increased physical activity. BHIP .5 is appropriate for individuals who are 50 pounds or more overweight and physically inactive, and whose primary goal is weight loss. Participants are chosen via a lottery drawing of applications.
Dates: Feb. 5–April 27
Times: One-hour group classes at 6:15 a.m. or 5:15 p.m. (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday)
Location: John Wooden Center and Drake Stadium
Applications are due Tuesday, Jan. 16. Lottery results will be sent via email on Jan. 18.

BHIP OnRamp — health improvement program
A 12-week health improvement program designed for individuals looking to become much more physically active and nutritionally mindful. Participants are chosen via a lottery drawing of applications.
Dates: Feb. 5–April 27
Times: One-hour group classes at 6:15 a.m., 7:15 a.m., 11 a.m., 12 p.m., 5:15 p.m., or 6:15 p.m. (Monday, Wednesday, Friday)
Location: John Wooden Center and Drake Stadium

Bruin MindFit — stress reduction program
A nine-week, hands-on mindful movement and meditation course that teaches several effective stress-management tools. Practice meditation, breathing (pranayama), basic yoga movement, relaxation, walking, and everyday mindfulness. Participants are chosen via a lottery drawing of applications. Applications due Tuesday, Jan. 16. Lottery results will be sent via email on Jan. 18.

Through collaboration with the Healthy Campus Initiative and FITWELL, the Diabetes Prevention Program provides education, encouragement and the tools necessary to help prediabetic faculty and staff reach their health goals. Participants meet in a classroom setting for an hour once a week for the first three months, biweekly (every other week) for the next three months, and once a month for the last six months. The CDC Group Lifestyle Balance curriculum includes basic information on nutrition, ways to increase physical activity, stress management techniques, and ideas to stay motivated.
