During the Muslim holy month of Ramadan — June 6-July 5 this year —  Muslims fast from liquids and food from sunrise to sunset. To support each evening’s breaking of the fast, dates and water are provided from approximately 7:45 to 9:30 p.m  in the dining commons at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center and Café Santa Monica at the Santa Monica/UCLA Medical Center.

The fast of Ramadan is not observed by sick people whose health and healing are likely to be affected by fasting, as well as older or feeble persons, expectant women and nursing mothers.

Additionally, relevant weekly prayer services are being held every Wednesday and Friday during Ramadan at both medical centers. All patients, visiting family and friends and staff members are welcome:

  • In Santa Monica, an interfaith prayer and meditation service is held every Wednesday at 4:15 p.m. in the conference center on the ground level.
  • At Ronald Reagan, a Jummah prayer service is held every Friday at 1:10 p.m. in the meditation room/chapel, Room 1109 on the first floor near the main entrance. This is a weekly obligatory prayer time for Muslims.

These services are sponsored by UCLA Health’s Department of Spiritual Care. For questions, call 310-825-7484 (Ronald Reagan) 424-259-8170 (Santa Monica).
