UCLA has been named the No. 2 public university in the Unites States according to the 2020 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, published today. The report also ranked UCLA No. 12 among all American universities — public or private — and No. 17 worldwide.

The publication ranked more than 1,300 of the world’s leading research-intensive universities in 92 countries. The rankings are based on a variety of factors, including quality of teaching and research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.

UC Berkeley, which tops the list of U.S. public universities and tied for No. 13 overall, is the only other American public institution to rank among the world’s top 20.

UCLA, which is currently celebrating its 100th year, consistently excels in a variety of rankings, regardless of criteria.

This week, UCLA was named the No. 1 U.S. public institution in the U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings for the third year in a row. Earlier this month, the Wall Street Journal/Times Higher Education College Rankings — also for the third consecutive year.
