UCLA police arrested a suspect in connection with two armed robberies of students reported this afternoon in Westwood Village. The man in his 20s was suspected of brandishing a knife and attempting to steal a cellphone.
 
UCLA officials issued precautionary BruinAlerts by email and text message to students, faculty and staff even though the crimes were off campus. Police said the first robbery occured about 3:30 p.m. near LeConte and Selby avenues, followed by another attempt ten minutes later on Wilshire Boulevard near Westwood Boulevard.
